Jason Guy | More Protein, Princess May 2012
May 06, 2012 12:23 PM PDT
The first track is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine at the moment. OK, so it's actually pop music, but who cares when you sound as good as Paloma Faith! At one point I was even considering putting the new Gossip song Perfect World on... but I didn't quite think I could get away with a non dance track, so someone please hurry up and remix it! Until next month. Jason Guy | Keepin' Up With The Joneses April 2012

This month's podcast is made up of my favourite tracks of the moment... a mixture of old and new, tech and funky, vocal and dubby, all blended together with more sparkle than a disco full of drag queens. Over the next couple of months you can catch me playing for Freakshow in Manchester and also for Federation as it moves to its new home of Sankeys (voted the world's number 1 club in Mixmag Magazine). Podcast SummaryThe first track is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine at the moment. OK, so it's actually pop music, but who cares when you sound as good as Paloma Faith! At one point I was even considering putting the new Gossip song Perfect World on... but I didn't quite think I could get away with a non dance track, so someone please hurry up and remix it! Until next month. About Jason GuyDJ Jason Guy Jason first starting DJing in 1989 after becoming captivated by the Hi-Energy music scene many of the UK's gay clubs were championing in the late 1980s. After the prerequisite bedroom practising and hours spent tracking down German and Italian vinyl imports, Jason earned himself his first break covering for the holiday of the resident DJ at the now defunct Rockies in Sheffield. Over the next few years, he secured residencies at many of the North's largest gay clubs in the late 80s and early 90s, including Rockies and The Mineshaft in Manchester, Rockies & Breakers in Sheffield and Rockshots in Leeds. As Jason's musical taste moved from Hi-Energy to house (greatly influenced by the Hacienda) he secured further residencies at Curzons in Derby and Mr Bs in Bradford. He was then asked to become the main resident for the newly opening Cruz101 in Manchester, where he stayed for the first year. After traveling and DJing every weekend for 5 years, he wanted to devote more time to his personal life and retired from DJing. 12 years later and with CDs becoming the medium of choice over vinyl for DJs, Jason was bought a pair of CD decks for his birthday. Mixing is like riding a bike and within a few months, he was playing his style of funky, driving house for Fibre in Leeds. He's since been lucky enough to play regularly for Federation around the UK at major venues including the Manchester Apollo, Flamingos in Blackpool, Area in London and Mission in Leeds. Since coming back to the DJ scene he has played at a number of big scale events, including Gaydar Radio's Main Stage at Manchester Pride 2008 to a crows 1000s strong, Queer Kandi (in conjunction with Hed Kandi) and the massive Love Leeds events. Just in time for the first Manchester Federation of 2012 at Sankeys on Easter Sunday... then the second blockbuster Bank Holiday Sunday event of the year is on the 6th May at the legendary Paradise Factory - the gay club that kick started modern day clubbing and where the Federation team cut their teeth!
